Patients allergic to Valtrex components should avoid it. Every situation where opioids are contraindicated, Valtrex is contraindicated. There is warning of acute intoxication with alcohols, narcotics, hypnotics, psychotropic drugs, opioids or centrally acting analgesics. Valtrex may also magnify breathing depression and Central nervous system issues.

Immediately inform the doctor / local poison control center (1-800-222-1222 for US patients) in case of overdose emergency. Dial 911 if patient loses consciousness or stops breathing.

Do not increase dosage to compensate for missed doses. Take the dose as soon as user realizes that the dose has been missed (unless there is very less time between the next one in which case just take one dose).
Valtrex can be addictive and induce similar reaction when abused or stopped abruptly. Valtrex can have very serious reactions. It should not be taken in combination with alcohol.
